NURSERY SUMMER SALE

Hello Chimacum Corner Community!

It’s summer in Chimacum, and there’s no more iconic of a tradition than buckin’ hay. Unlikely cadres of friends, neighbors, highschoolers, and dads come together to get them bales out of the fields. This hot, dry run came at a perfect time for the hay guys. Between the mowin’ and the hayin’, the hay fever is running high. Plants and crops are harnessing the mighty power of northwest solstice daylight hours and seemingly growing by the minute. New crops appear at the farmer’s market every week. And it’s just the beginning of stone fruit season. In honor of high summer, the Corner Nursery is pulling out all the stops and offering a sweet sale on farm starts and seed packets. Time to fill in those holes in the garden where spring crops have come and gone, and plant new rounds of things that will be ready for beautiful autumnal harvests. So saunter on in one of these siesta-times and check out what’s on offer!

Summertime Saleness

That’s right, it’s NURSERY SUMMER SALE time! All Midori and Red Dog Farm plant starts are $1 off. There’s plenty of quick-turn herbs, greens, and brassicas to get in for late summer and fall harvests out of the garden. In addition, all seed packets are a dollar off, across all labels. Stock up on Saltwater, Deep Harvest, High Mowing, and more! There’s a little overcast and rain coming this weekend, making it perfect for getting these tender starts planted in the ground.

It’s Raining Rainiers!

You’ve heard of red-bottom Louboutins, but Rainier cherries are the “gold bottoms” of the fruit world. Sleek red shoulders create that classic two-tone look we all know and love. It’s officially peak Rainier season, from the true heavyweight champions of the Washingon fruit world, Tonnemaker Hill Farm. Not only are they exceptional in flavor, they are also half the price of the Rainiers we’ve been able to source heretofore this season. Bulk cherries are $6.99 per lb, while a 5 pound case saves you 5 bucks, at $29.99. While supplies last! These bad boys might not last the weekend, so snag that case when you’re in next. It’s a piece of fruit so good, even the frogs will be calling out for them.

Case Deals

As mentioned, five pound cases of Tonnemaker Rainier cherries are $29.99, a five dollar savings on the retail per pound price. In addition, we have the first Utility apricots available from Stemilt on Saturday. These fruits are “utility,” meaning they are good for projects like canning, drying, baking, preserving, et cetera. They will be available in multiple case sizes for all scales of home economics projects. Time to dust off those ball jars and jam pots, and get out the pectin!

Can-Can Dancers

The first quality stone fruit has us thinking about canning and preserving season. It’s time to dust off all the gear and get organized to receive and process the bounty! The Grocery team has everything you might need to reload on for the occasion. There is a whole host of various sized ball jars available for sale, as well as cases of ball jars. The Grocery team even put the Tare Weight of each kind of jar on the shelf price tag, so you can be prepared for using them in the bulk section! For the sweet side of preservation, we have big bags of organic cane sugar from Azure Market, as well as pectin, cornstarch, tapioca starch, and gelatin. And, in service of the savory side, we have Morton’s Canning & Pickling Salt, pickling spices in our bulk herb set, and gallons of Mrs. Wages Pickling & Canning Vinegar. There is no better form of security than a pantry filled with twinkling jars of preserved produce.

Strawb Shorty

Hoo-wee fam, this dessert is a real doozy. I’m talking about the new and improved Strawberry Shortcake from the Corner Kitchen. Open pint strawberries from Oregon farms are marinated in a strawberry sauce made from Tonnemaker “Benton” strawberries, then tossed in the middle of a light fluffy shortcake made with buttermilk and One Straw Ranch farm eggs. Finally, a luscious mascarpone whipped topping adds that creamy dreaminess to the tart-sweetness of the berry situation. It’s a goddang hoot, and has the Corner staff rubbing their full tummies with contentment after many a lunch break.

S’more Please!

That’s right, it’s campfire season, and ergo, it’s SMORE SEASON. Luckily for all of us at the Corner and our revered shoppers, there’s a nice suite of deals on all the smore fixin’s a guy could ask for. Annie’s graham crackers start the show, followed by Dandies marshmallows, and rounding out the programming, there are a whole host of chocolates to choose from. TCHO, Theo’s and Tony’s chocolates all have special savings for the next few weeks. So whether you are a slash and burn charball roaster, or you work the mallow rotisserie like a pit boss ‘til perfect golden brown, we’ve got the ingredients to get you started.

Happy Anniversary, Katy & Phil!

We wanted to give a quick shout to our founders, Katy & Phil, as they celebrate 30 years of marriage this week! (15 of those years bringing up the babes at the Corner!) Talk about a dynamic duo! Doctors turned Chimacum civic developers, whenever the Corner has hit a crux point, they have always doubled down in support of the cause: a true gathering place based around high quality local food and goods. In an endless series of “more-than-they-bargained-fors,” Katy & Phil have never wavered, approached things with kindness and compassion, and continue to be true stewards of the Corner. Looking back over photos of their wedding on gorgeous San Juan, you can see the essence of what they began striving towards: a beautiful life in rural Washington. Happy 30th Anniversary, Katy & Phil! Turnip often daydreams of having been a flower girl on your special day. :)

“Sweethearts together
We've only just begun
Sweethearts together
We'll take life as it comes
Sweethearts forever
Two hearts together as one”

(Legend goes, Phil sang this to Katy at their wedding as a surprise… not a dry eye in the place :))
