Hello Chimacum Corner Community!

Early summer brings expectation. “When are the Hermistons coming in? When are the Stellar J blueberries landing? Any local tomatoes? You guys got pickling cukes yet??” Farmers are gassed with no end in sight and the crops can’t grow as fast as the demand. The Chimacum Corner Produce Buying Team had the pleasure of touring Spring Rain Farm with Farmer John during the midweek raspberry pic. Talk about a veritable wonderland of perennial goodies! The farm looks so amazing this time of year, and everywhere you turn, plants, trees, vines, and bushes are loaded with some kind of fruit or another. It was affirming of the work we do at the Corner to see these blue-chip farmers in their element, John twirling heirloom tomatoes while holding forth on irrigation and Roxanne, earbuds in, deftly and indefatigably bringing in the proverbial raspberry bacon as the crew picked alongside. Speaking of fruit, the Corner is putting on a gosh darn clinic about it, both in the Nursery and in Produce. We are setting off fruit fireworks all across your grocery list! BOOM!

Heavy Case Load

The Fruit Fireworks on the Corner Produce Porch have been ignited in a blaze of glory. First of, we have a stone fruit barrage from Handsome Luke and the Tonnemaker Hill crew. The fruit of the moment to our minds has to be apricots in 2 varieties: a classic Goldrich, and the Cotton Candy mini-sugar-bombs. Try both of them! Finally, and this came to us as a shock too, FIRST PEACHES have landed from Tonnemaker’s as well! They are aptly called “Earlystar,” and reports are bright! Tonnemakers picks peaches right into their boxes, allowing them to let the fruit ripen longer on the tree than most other large farms. As if all the new fun additions from Tonnemakers weren’t enough, we also have a growing flow of local berries, including raspberries, boysenberries, and more! So, now is the time to blow your spending money on fresh high quality organic fruit! Summer is officially here!

Grilling for Answers

The Fourth means grillin’. We’re back in the charcoal game, and we’ve got Cowboy brand 100% natural lumps. This mixed hardwood charcoal boasts long cooking times and real wood flavor. While we have grilling on the brain, we thought we’d give a quick shout to the Blackened Chicken Salad from our steadfast heroes at the Corner Kitchen. A bed of Space Twins salad mix lays the foundation for a southwest style assemblage of corn, black beans, blackened chicken, and cherry tomatoes. A cup of cilantro ranch lends the drizzle you need to get it poppin’! It’s a generous salad that will fill you up for lunch!

Cold beverages are the baseline requisite of a chill time. We have scads of deals on bubbly beverages for all your holiday gatherings. Interdependent Planetary

We are excited to be in attendance at the 15th annual Interdependence Day Celebration, Sunday July 12th at Finnriver in appreciation of our entire, beautiful, wonderful Chimacum Community! The Corner crew will be hanging out and enjoying all the bounty at Finn: community booths, makers market, face painting, giant bubbles, circus performances, and an end of night DJ Dance Party! In support of all staff being able to attend we will be closing the Corner early at 6pm that day, so plan accordingly!
