FAREWELL FARMERS MARKET
Hello Chimacum Corner Community!
The last Sunday in October always lands a little bittersweet at the Corner. That is because it is the last Sunday of the year that the steadfast troupe of local small businesses gathers on the back lawn to sell all their fine wares. However, it is always a joyful market, as folks dress up for Halloween and the JCFM crew goes extra-hard with programming to make the last market extra-fun! Catch Turnip there in her cat suit, hehe! We at the Corner also have a little trick up our sleeve for Sunday, with a special Apple Tasting with Tonnemaker Hill Farm, featuring Mr. Luke Tonnemaker himself! Make sure to pass through the Corner Nursery Greenhouse while you peruse the Chimacum Farmers Market. It is going to be a spooky hoot!
Taste the Rainbow
This week in Produce we are featuring all things Tonnemaker ahead of our Apple Tasting with Luke this Sunday, October 26th from 11-2pm! We’ll get to apples, but have you had the Einset grapes from them yet?? An absolutely incredible grape that really does taste like strawberry candy! Then of course we also have their entire line-up of both European and Asian Pears. Current cultivars on the Euro side include Bosc, Comice, and D’Anjou!
Mais oui, let’s talk apples. Braeburn, Pink Lady, and RedLove are fresh to the party, and the Pink Lady crop this year is absolutely stunning and eats like a dream. This year’s crop is a reminder of why this strain of apple punched its ticket into the pantheon of well-known varietals. We are one week away from Tonnemaker Cosmic Crisps as well, exciting! Of those that have been around, Ludacrisp and Mountain Rose have emerged as staff favorites, with Fuji still the reigning king of volume. That said, we are eager to see what Luke, the “Willy Wonka of Washington Fruits,” has up his Carhartt sleeves this weekend.

Root Veg Rainbow Slaw
Speaking of tasting the rainbow, we wanted to highlight a little quiet warrior in the Corner Kitchen line-up: the Root Veg Rainbow Slaw! We take a base of carrots, beets, fuji apples, and red cabbage, toss in some Sultana Raisins, and then dress it up in an ACV/honey/toasted sesame oil/lemon/ginger potion. The result is a bright and tangy magenta-colored slaw that is a great topper on soups and salads, or a healthy side-kick to a Corner Kitchen sandwich. Give it a whirl on your next lunch run!
Latest Tea on the Loaves
There are a lot of moving parts these days in the world of bread, so we thought we would pass along some intel to the community. Chief among them are goings-on of Chimacum Valley Grainery. We are stoked that they have added a monthly “Baker’s Special” loaf to their line-up. They choose one new flavor each month, and that special loaf lands every Thursday. This is in addition to Farmstead Loaf and the other offerings. The October “Baker’s Special” is a Miller’s Miche Sourdough, a wholesome round loaf with floor malted rye berries and a splash of “Winter Storm,” the Grainery’s own Stout beer. The November “Baker’s Special” will be the highly popular Castelvetrano Olive / Preserved Lemon loaf.
We would also like to announce some “Bake Breaks” from the Grainery so y’all can plan accordingly. The first break will be from Nov 27th - Dec 2nd with deliveries resuming Dec 3rd. But don’t worry, we will have an epic spread of Grainery goods for the Thanksgiving run! The second significant break the Grainery will take is from Dec 24th - Jan 13th, with deliveries resuming Jan 14th.

Lastly, we are pleased to have added another fresh bread offering, from the old workhorses Franz Bakery. They are a fifth generation Washington company founded in 1906! Amazing! We are able to get fresh bread products from them that we used to have to buy frozen from other companies and slack out onto the retail floor. They deliver once a week to us as well. Of course, we only get products from them that we can’t fill from our hyperlocal sources: Chimacum Valley Grainery, Pane D’Amore, and White Lotus Farm.
That’s our bread download! Happy loafing!
Goodnight Greenhouse
In addition to the final Chimacum Farmers Market, the end of October marks the official goodbye to our 2025 Nursery Crew. As they ride off into the sunset, we’ve got fantastic deals as we work to dwindle our supplies. All plants are 40% off and All Soils, Amendments and Nursery Supplies are 25% Off and don’t forget the Compost and Potting Soil multi bag discounts! (There are a few items not included in the sale, such as Native Bulbs, Pumpkins, Sequoias, Noble Firs, and Outdoor Pots) We may be powering down the greenhouse, while the Nursery Staff take a much deserved break, but we’re still dreaming of Bare-Root Fruit and Nut Trees nested into sawdust berm beds. Don’t fret, there will still be a seasonal selection of items through the winter, you’ll just need to run your transaction inside the store. Come 2026, we’re excited to have a new Nursery Manager too! Be sure to check out the posting.
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Pretzel
Ready for Halloween snacks, but don’t want to load up on candy? We have a great deal on the whole line-up of Quinn GF pretzel products, including the aptly fall-flavored Maple Almond Butter filled pretzel nuggets. All of the nuggets are $1.50 off! Don’t forget the sticks and the twists either. The founder, Kristy, is a mother of three boys and self-professed “certified neurotic Virgo.” That’s the kind of person you want making your pretzel snacks, believe me. Get’em before the deal is done!
