GETTIN’ CRAFTY WITH IT

The Chimacum Holiday Weekend is finally upon us, and we couldn’t be more excited! “Downtown Chimacum” is transformed into a local artisanal Rodeo Drive, from the Grange to the Farmstand. Think of it as our local take on “Shop Small” Saturday, all weekend long.

Many beloved vendors will be on display at both the Chimacum Arts & Crafts Fair at the high school, and the Farmer’s Craft Fair at the Grange. Be sure to get your hand stamp at the Arts & Crafts Fair, as that is your badge of honor that entitles you to discounts at places like Finnriver and the Chimacum Cafe. Participating sites all have a large “Snowbale Person” stationed at the front of their zones (an annual tradition sponsored by CCF, round bales installed by Austin Bishop of Bishop Family Farm). It seems like the Snowbale people might be the only snow we see in Chimacum for a while yet! Read on for a short description of the happenings this weekend.

The marquee event of the weekend is the Chimacum Arts & Crafts Fair, now in its 38th installment. Not only is it an opportunity to shop small and support local orgs, it is also a fundraiser for unfunded extracurricular programs throughout the Chimacum Schools. Chimacum High School’s Culinary Arts class will be serving hot soup and grilled sandwiches out of their FEED Truck, the state’s first student-run food truck enterprise—which made its debut in the 2023 Fair! Full circle. Check out the event website for more information and to see a map of the venue. Then get on out there and support community!

Just across the street at the Chimacum Grange will be the Farmer’s Craft Fair, hosted by the Salish Sea Makers Market. Think indie and eclectic with wildcrafted and local ag producers thrown in. There will be cozy drinks and live music on tap as well! Be sure to check out the vaudevillian advertising curtain hanging in the front of the grange. It was discovered under the stage by Al Latham, and restored by our very own owner, Katy McCoy. Catch Lily Haight’s fine article in the PT Leader about the whole story here

Once you’ve shopped til you dropped, head on over to Chimacum’s other fine establishments, Chimacum Cafe and Finnriver! Get $2 off any order at the Chimacum Cafe with a Crafts Fair hand stamp (hint: pie and coffee is unmatched). Finnriver is offering a discount on all draft pours, as well as multiple live musical acts. You can even get your picture taken with Santa at Finnriver on Sunday from 1-3 pm! Ho ho ho!

As ever, we will be on hand with a full bounty of giftable grocery fare, all weekend long. We will have the drip coffee corner fully loaded, and you can stock up on all your groceries for the week on your way out of town. Sometimes a crisp Pink Lady is all the gift you need. Happy treasure hunting, all over town!
