ELVES STOCKING SHELVES

Hello Chimacum Corner Community!

“YOU’RE NOT SANTA! You smell like beef and cheese.” So decried Will Ferrell, during a shopping mall Santa session, in his turn as Buddy the Elf in the Christmas now-classic film “Elf.” However, we’d like to hope that the Chief Executive Officer of the largest gift distribution network on Earth nourishes himself with local, regeneratively-raised meat and dairy. In our world, Santa ideally does smell like beef and cheese. Turnip has been busy as an elf, decorating eggs for her fellow flocksters. And us elves at the Corner have been hard at work, procuring the best the holiday season has to offer. Whether you just need to dash in for a last minute gift, or are loading up a cart for an epic holiday spread, the Corner is awash in nourishing joy, the perfect antidote for long cold Solstice nights. As Ferrell elucidates, “We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup.”

CCF Stocking Stuffers

If you are in need of some last minute stocking stuffers, a CCF gift card in your chosen denomination will light up anybody’s face with glee. If you are ordering gifts for locals from far away, we offer digital gift card options in our website’s merch shop as well. Give the gift of the best local fare in town this holiday season! It is a gift both meaningful and directly impactful - keeping good groceries on the table through the long nights of winter.

If you are looking for a CCF gift for a more “analog” human that appreciates physical items, we still have great stock in all of our Corner-brand merch items as well. Beanies, sweatshirts, t-shirts, mugs, you name it! With a beak as cute as Turnip’s, it’s hard to argue with a piece of Corner Farmstand gear.

Apples In the Round

There is no truer Washingtonian holiday dessert than a whole apple pie. Grace your table with a stunning centerpiece from the Baking Team at the Corner Kitchen. A house-made pastry base is loaded with our filling, based aroiund “Macoun” apples from Tonnemaker Hill, then dusted with a crisp-style top with oats and nuts. Instead of loading yourself down with pie weights, cruise through the Corner and dig right into lipsmackingly good slices. While supplies last and only through the holidays!

Winter Roots

To be honest, it is kind of a sad week in produce, as we will be getting our last deliveries for the season from many of our small local farms. However, they have 100 percent earned the winter break that is so vital to keeping a farmer alive. That being said, we are stocking up on bulk storage crops to keep local on the shelf as long as we can. We’d like to highlight one of our most unusual root crops, Yacon! Also known as the “ground-apple” and hailing from South America, it has been brought to our regional food supply almost single-handedly by Laura Llewellyn of Chimalow Produce. Laura suggests it raw and in stir-frys, but it has many more applications too! Try this unusual tuber on your next foray through the Produce Porch. In addition to Yacon, we still have plenty of local bulk carrots, black radishes, beets, and more! Commit to eating with the seasons and develop your winter root cooking game.

New Produce Sampling Program

We have been cooking up something novel in the Produce Department, and are excited to share our new Sampling Program, featuring Aaron Dorr, our resident Produce Guru. Each week, Aaron will be sampling a new item that we are particularly excited about. We will begin sampling with a rotating cast of citrus stock. We will be offering samples Sunday through Wednesday. It’s a little extra incentive to get your early week shopping done at the Corner! It will also be a fun way to share Aaron’s depth of knowledge with all of y’all. Stay tuned!

JCFBA End of Year Giving

The Jefferson County Food Bank Association is calling on donors for a December Donation Campaign, largely in response to the surge in demand following the recently legislated reduction in allowable government benefits to households in need. Board President Roland Faragher-Horwell has noted that monthly client counts have swelled from 2,500 people to 4,000. As much of the food available (⅔) is actually purchased, donating money has the biggest impact in alleviating hunger. The JCFBA is a listed organization in the current Give Jefferson campaign run by the Jefferson Community Foundation, and have their own Food Bank Food Fund that is an ongoing project. If you are in a space of abundance, please consider donating to the JCFBA this holiday season, so that they can continue to grow in service of our community.
