Everyday We Brusselin’
Thanksgiving is to the Produce Department what the Super Bowl is to the NFL. We re-organize our entire department, front and back, and carry more inventory than at any other point in the annual flow. For instance, we will sell somewhere in the ballpark of 300 pounds of brussel sprouts in the span of 6 days. That’s a lot of micro-cabbages! Thanks to our new “Display Sensei,” Beers, this Thanksgiving is set to be the most visually appealing at the Corner in recent memory. Mountains of sweet potatoes, green beans, mushrooms, onions, carrots, apples, cranberries, and celery will be yours to ascend. For folks that don’t have the time or bandwidth to make their own scratch cranberry sauce, our Corner Kitchen has whipped up a proper batch of Cranberry Sauce that will scratch that holiday itch. Cranberry Sauce provides a versatile tang to many dishes and will keep long after the serving platters and stemmed glasses are put back in the cupboard. For proof of excellence, try the Cranberry Sauce on the new Turkey Cranberry sandwich, available in our deli section at the store!
Evergreen Dreams
Just in time for the start of winter holiday season, we have some elegant ornamental evergreen offerings from local farmers. Local boy Sebastian Edgerton, fellow grocery store worker and small farmer, has put together a sweet collection of evergreen wreaths with tasteful embellishments. In addition, as is store tradition, Bil Thorn of Sky Island Farm, down in Humptulips, will be bringing a fresh lot of evergreen garlands and wreaths for living decor available for sale at the Corner Store. Speaking of living decor, we have a fresh lot of Noble Firs and Giant Sequoias from Crescent Moon Farm in Port Angeles! Get your living holiday tree today!
Teenage Dirtbag Baby
This Thanksgiving marks the 15th anniversary of the advent of the Chimacum Corner Farmstand! A veritable quinceanera of local grocery industry hijinks. We have really ascended into our awkward teenage years. And true to that statement, there is still much growing to be done at CCF. However, that does not preclude all of the massive growth moments that have transpired since that fateful snowstorm way back when, in November of 2010. As we look ahead to the development of the Farm’s Reach site as well as the existing (and now company-owned) Farmstand site, we can’t help but remember when the store was a mere two shelving units of inventory, with no Produce Porch or shipping container storage labyrinth either. We tip our CCF caps to all those who fought and grinded over the years to make the Corner what it is: a vibrant hub of local and thoughtful food and products. Here’s to the next 15 years! Onward and upward.
