SOMEBUNNY TO LOVE
Hello Chimacum Corner Community!
You’ve heard of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but have you ever seen a chick in bunny’s clothing? Turnip has leaned into her “rabbit energy” moment, and has been seen hopping at serious heights all around the Farmstand grounds. T.S. Eliot claimed April to be the “cruellest month” in “The Waste Land,” but we aren’t so sure. He wasn’t around for Earth Day, obviously. Or the beginning of the Farmer’s Market season! We are at the time of spring traditions. Come on down to the Corner for “egg-cellent” provisions to bolster your celebrations!
Easter Bloomers
We are still a way’s out from the ultimate floral abundance of summer, but fortunately for all of our current celebrations, the daffodils have already begun to bloom. Score a bunch of exceptionally grown, unique varieties of daffodils from Forest Elf Farm in Port Townsend on the Produce Porch this weekend. We will also have a selection of the final early Tulips from Lexi Mara to grace your spring tables. Turnip loves picking daffodils at the perfect stage, so that she can watch them burst open in the coop!
Passover Provisions
In honor of the Seder, the Produce team has curated a beautiful selection of produce items to incorporate into one’s Passover traditions. Bitter greens like Red Dandelion and Escarole are on hand for the chazeret, and Tonnemaker fuji apples for the charoset. Don’t forget the horseradish! At the Corner, it’s all about food and community, and the meaning behind food.
Basket Cases
If you are in need of a solid Easter basket, look no further than our colorful assortment of hand-woven baskets. Once you have your desired size and colorway, proceed to stuff it with goodies! We have great deals on Magic brand and Beyond Good brand chocolate bars at the moment. Also, Annie’s Chocolate Bunny Grahams are three dollars off! There are also some great deals in the baking set, if you are in the mood to craft your own Easter confections. Hop on it while the deals are hot!
Sunny Side Up
Easter comes at the perfect time for the spring outpouring of avian eggs. We are fortunate to have a good flow of local eggs, whether you want chicken eggs from One Straw Ranch, duck eggs from SpringRain Farm, or even goose eggs from Olympic Waterfowl Farm. Dye them, devil them, or fry them in the skillet! Take advantage of the seasonal abundance. Just don’t tell Turnip!
Get Tappy-yoked!
The Corner Kitchen has a creamy cool delight that is sure to spice up your night. That’s right, we’ve got our own in-house Coconut Tapioca Pudding! This gluten-free offering is simple and clean; just coconut milk, eggs, sugar, tapioca, vanilla, and shredded coconut topping toasted right at the Kitchen. You can make it over the top by cutting up some Ataulfo mango or adding berries to the mix. Go nuts!
Ground Covers & Herbs
If you’re looking to blanket your space in luxurious foliage, the Corner Nursery has a great selection of ground covers in stock at the moment. “Creeping Mazus” has interesting, lobelia-like blooms on running stems. For a little pizzazz, throw in some “Plum Crazy Shamrock,” a variegated magenta and green clover with yellow blooms. We also have “Chocolate Chip Ajuga” for the gardener-goths and woodland strawberries for an enchanted forest vibe.
Refreshing herb plots is an essential spring garden task that ensures quick and easy cuisine enhancement all season long. The Nursery has several varieties of mint to play with, as well as the standard bearer of sage, “Berggarten.” Amply-sized Rosemary plants are abundant, as are other aromatics like Oregano, Chamomile, and Catnip. Don’t forget the cutest little Italian Parsley plugs from Midori Farm! Herbs are a no brainer in any garden, and bring joy year after year!
