EVERYDAY (SAVINGS) PEOPLE
Hello Chimacum Corner Community!
“We got to live together,” proclaimed Sly Stone in 1968, amidst all that turmoil, and so the song remains the same. The mornings and nights are lengthening by the day, and farmers are finally starting to catch their breaths. School is back in session, so parents all over JeffCo are hopefully catching their breaths as well! Perhaps our wallets are still panting from summer expenditures, however. Luckily, there are some great savings all around the Corner Store at the moment, so our wallets can catch a slight breather. From local eggs to cans of beans, a savvy sleuth can load up on some high quality “food from here” for low costs. Here’s to keeping it local and keeping our families nourished.
Apple A Day Babayyy
For the French, the popular health slogan is “petite salade, jamais malade,” but for Washingtonians it is “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Make your teachers proud and show up with a local apple to school. It is officially “bin season” from Tonnemaker Hill, when we get large macrototes of apples and box them into 20 lb cases. Current heavy hitters are Gala, Honeycrisp, Red Rubens, and Ruby Jonathans. Not to be outdone, pears have made a steady stride onto the Produce Porch too. Whether you like a Bartlett or a Hosui Asian pear, crispy juicy packets of fruity sugar await you. We are upon the season of transition from stone to pome fruit. Time to eat with the seasons!

E.D.L.P. = Every Day Low Prices
Thanks to our membership in INFRA (Independent Natural Food Retailers Association), we have some solid agreements with our distributors to bring you the lowest prices possible on organic staples. We currently have near to 70 products on shelves around the store with the CADIA label. Things like canned veggies, frozen bagged veggies, pastas, and even tin fish are all reasonably priced. The motto is EDLP - “Everyday Low Prices,” and these are not transitory deals, they are prenegotiated rates that will be here to stay. Look for the tags that say “Save Daily” on them that are often tucked next to the price tag for a given product.
Season Ending Seed & Soil Sale
Things are winding down in the Greenhouse out front, getting down to the well storing things like pots, fertilizers, and seed garlic. We also said farewell to our esteemed Nursery Manager Del this week, who has found greener pastures as a private landscaper on an esteemed estate. Celebrate Del’s CCF sunset with some great sales on soil and seeds while supplies last. Soil is buy one get one half off, and seed packs are all one dollar off! We also still have a great little stock of native trees and shrubs that would love to come home with you. Get out to the Greenhouse and take advantage of the deals!
One Straw Egg Sale
Charlotte and Martin of One Straw Ranch have an abundance of chicken eggs at the moment, and are running an epic tiered sale to pass on some savings to the local egg eaters! When you buy four dozen or more from them, you save $2 per dozen! Wondering what to do with all your eggs? Try Charlotte’s dutch baby recipe for a sweet protein packed floofer of a pancake that will keep you powered up throughout the day!
