The Beanies Are Back in Town

Hello Chimacum Corner Community!

We woke up to the first frost last Monday morning. First Frost should be a countywide holiday, at least for farmers. It is an incontrovertible scientific phenomenon, the freezing of water in plant tissue, cells bursting and disintegrating. It renders a lot of crops undeniably D-U-N done. For this fact, it marks the true change from summer to fall. With the arrival of fall, we are intuitively drawn to the cozier side of life. Long nights, cold mornings, and howling winds urge us to turn inward, and reach for sources of comfort. Chimacum Corner may as well be a Comfort Supply Depot. We offer comforting foods, comforting vibes, and comforting goods. Perhaps the chief comfort accessory at the store is the CCF beanie, which we perennially make available in every color of the rainbow. But cozy doesn’t stop there. Read on for all the ways you can luxuriate in the warmth of Chimacum Corner, even with frost nipping at your heels.

Spud Infinity

It’s officially “Tuber Town” at Chimacum Corner, from the Nursery to the Produce Porch. This week, we are singing the praises of the potato. In addition to the “Magic Molly” purple potatoes from Midori, we are also fortunate to be bringing in a lot of certified organic Washington grown potatoes via Puget Sound Food Hub. Specifically, all of the potatoes are coming from First Cut Farm, which is a husband-and-wife owned-and-operated farm in Mount Vernon. We have their standard yellow and red potatoes, as well as some more exciting varieties like Pinto, Amarosa, and Austrian Crescent fingerlings. On top of all these great local potatoes, we have solid Leeks from Red Dog Farm, so the soup-making provisions are well stocked out on the Porch! Time to get things a-simmerin’.

“Hygge” with Hoodies

“Hygge” (hoo-gah) is a Danish term that refers to the experience of being relaxed and cozy amongst friends/relatives, in a familiar, fond place, enjoying one another’s company and sharing food/thoughts/vibes with no agenda. It is the feeling of ultimate convivial “group-nesting”. To augment your sense of “hygge” this fall we have a fresh merch drop of CCF beanies in all colors, as well as hoodies and zippered sweatshirts in our chosen colorways. If you are proud to be a part of the Chimacum Corner community we would love for you to rep Turnip in all her glory on gear of your choosing. Comfy-cozy here we come!

Tortilla Blankies

As we turn to bundling up our bodies against the fall chill, the Corner Kitchen team is hard at work bundling up Breakfast Burritos for all of your on-the-go morning routines. Available in vegetarian tofu scramble format or in bacon style, all burritos have deliciously seasoned breakfast potatoes, sharp cheese, and house-made salsa inside. A full burrito is an epic way to fuel up for the long day ahead. Pair that with a classic cup of drip coffee from either Sunrise Coffee Co. or Port Townsend Roasting Co., and you will be roaring out of the gates!

Bulb Tuck-in Time

As the days shorten and the frosts increase, it is time to get fall bulb plantings tucked away safely into the soil. Turner and his fabulous Nursery crew have brought in an order of meticulously selected flowering bulbs for your gardenly consideration. First off, there are native Camas lily bulbs available, which are a welcome addition to any plot, with their lovely blue blooms. Did you know Camas is a part of the asparagus family? Joining the party with Camas are various chic tulips, asiatic lilies, daffodils, crocus, and even some Grape Hyacinth. Bulb plantings make for excellent accents throughout the landscape, or striking statements when planted densely in thick swaths. As with perennials, early fall is the perfect time to get your bulbs in the ground, and they are such fun to plant!

In addition to all the fresh and cozy wearable Chimacum Corner merch, the Grocery team has us covered with some great deals on the Traditional Medicinals line of organic teas. Save over two bucks on any box, from Throat Coat to Cup of Calm! Nothing says autumn like long nights punctuated by cups of tea. Grab a classic Chimacum Corner “Food From Here” diner mug or ceramic “naked”-style mugs thrown by Mudwood Gnomes pottery too.
